Carl Orff dedicou grande parte de sua vida à musicalização infantil. Seu trabalho pioneiro continua sob a orientação de professores e educadores em muitos países.
Os cinco volumes básicos alemães de “ Music for Children ”, de Carl Orff e Gunild Keetman, foram publicados entre 1950 e 1954.
O considerável crescimento da Orff-Schulwerk nos Estados Unidos levou à publicação da edição americana em 1977 para satisfazer os requisitos de um sistema educacional diferente e aliado a raízes nacionais americanas.Music for Children é uma fonte estimulante de material para o ensino de música. A coleção traz repertório didático a ser executado na flauta, canto e instrumentos Orff (xilofone, triângulo,etc.) Neste volume 1 , adaptado para o inglês por Margaret Murray, canções para prática da escala pentatônica
